Mercedes-Benz Australia has recalled the 2020 C-Class, GLC, and EQC to fix a problem with the wiring harness on the steering control unit.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, the wiring harness of the steering control unit may be damaged,” Mercedes-Benz says in its recall notice.

“The damage can allow water or moisture into the wiring harness, which can cause a short circuit, resulting in a loss of electric power steering.

“A failure of the electric power steering would be indicated by a corresponding warning message in the instrument panel.”

If a short circuit occurs, there’s a risk power steering assistance will be lost. There’s also a risk of vehicle fire.

    • A total of 719 cars are included in the recall
    • Affected cars were built between 3 February, 2020 and 31 July, 2020
    • A VIN list of affected vehicles is attached here
    • The original recall notice is attached here

Mercedes-Benz Australia will contact owners of the affected vehicles and advise them to organise a free fix with their nearest dealer.
