2019-21 Toyota Supra recalled

Toyota is recalling its 2019-21 Supra due to engine management software that could damage the oil/vacuum pump.

“The subject vehicles have been equipped with an engine management software that, under certain specific engine start conditions, could damage a component that provides braking power assistance,” the company says in its recall notice.

“In this condition, there could be a loss of brake assist and an increase in stopping distance.

“This can lead to an increased risk of an accident”

Toyota says the damage could be caused should you press the engine start/stop button two times in rapid succession or if you depress the brake pedal very briefly while pressing the button.

The company says that prior to a loss of brake assist, the full brake assist function will be available for four full brake applications or approximately nine partial brake applications.

Fully mechanical braking, without brake assist, isn’t affected by this issue.

To remedy this issue, Toyota dealers will provide a free update to the engine control unit (ECU). This update should take around 1-3 hours to complete.

Toyota Austalia is contacting all affected owners via SMS, email, and/or mail to schedule a fix.
