Mercedes-Benz Australia has issued a recall for 101 vehicles across the A-Class, B-Class and CLA model lines over concerns affected vehicles could spring engine oil leaks.
According to the manufacturer, vehicles fitted with the M282 petrol engine from model years 2019 and 2020 could be affected.
The M282 engine is the 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit used in 160, 180 and 200 models in varying tunes – meaning the A180, A200, B180 and CLA200 are affected in Australia as the lower-grade 160 variants aren’t available locally.
“Engine oil may escape from the turbocharger oil feed line, leak onto the underfloor panelling and from there onto the road,” Mercedes-Benz says in its recall notice.
“Escaping engine oil may come into contact with hot components in the engine compartment and a fire may result. In addition, oil leaking onto the road would increase the risk of an accident for other road users.”
“Either of these consequences could increase the risk of an accident and injury or death of vehicle occupants and other road users,” the company adds.
Owners of the recalled models are requested to contact their preferred Mercedes-Benz dealer to arrange the inspection and repair of their vehicle, which will all be conducted free of charge.
