Mercedes-Benz Australia has recalled its flagship S560 limousine to fix a problem with the engine plugs.
According to the company, the ‘closure material’ of the plugs might fail because of high oil pressures during hard driving, which can create an oil leak.
If enough oil leaks from the engine, the driver will be warned by a light in the instrument cluster – but if they ignore the warnings the engine could run dry, creating a risk of stalling and engine damage.
Engine stalling could result in an accident, while oil leaking onto the road puts other road users at risk.
Mercedes-Benz Australia will contact owners of the affected vehicles and advise them to organise a free fix with their nearest dealer.
