Renault Australia has issued a safety recall for the MY16 Megane, over concerns incorrect wording in the owner’s manual could lead owners to disable the rear child safety locks.
More than 800 vehicles are affected by this recall, with the French manufacturer saying: “The owner’s manual window operation section contains an error in the wording and may cause the user to wrongly operate the child safety features on the rear door”.
“The rear doors may be opened from the inside by a child in the back seat. This could increase the risk of injury and or death to vehicle occupants.”
In one of the stranger fixes we’ve seen, the fix involves “the words ‘and doors’ to be blocked out with a black marker”.

Owners of the recalled Meganes are requested to contact their preferred Renault dealer to have their logbooks “amended”.
