The Kia Stinger and Sportage have been recalled to fix a problem with electronic control unit responsible for ABS, stability control, and traction control.
According to Kia, the Hydraulic ECU can remain live when the car is turned off. If moisture enters the H-ECU, it could short circuit.
“If an electrical short circuit occurs, this could result in an engine compartment fire when the key is switched off and the vehicle is parked,” Kia Australia says in its recall notice.
“A vehicle fire could increase the risk injury or death to vehicle occupants or bystanders and/or damage to property.”
Kia Australia will contact owners and advise them to organise a free fix with their nearest dealer.
In the meantime, it is advising owners park their vehicles away from flammable or enclosed spaces.
