BMW Australia has recalled the 2016-20 X3 and X4 SUVs, and the 5 Series sedan and wagon.
According to the company, “A software update issue may lead to an engine failure whilst driving and a red Check Control message ‘Drive faulty’ may also appear”.
“A sudden loss of engine power increases the risk of an accident and injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”
BMW Australia says owners of affected vehicles can contact their local dealership to organise a free fix.
