Mansory Rolls-Royce vs Urus Essenza vs Brabus AMG G 63 vs Hyundai Ioniq 5 N drag race

Right, so it’s time to figure out which SUV has the biggest chops in a straight line.

But, these aren’t just any SUVs – thee are some of the fastest SUVs on the road, but each of them have a trick up their sleeves. We have a Rolls-Royce Cullinan with Mansory gear, a Mercedes-AMG G 63 with Brabus kit and finally a limited-edition, invite only Lamborghini Urus Performante Essenza SCV12.

The winner goes up against the all-electric Korean missile: the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.

The cars

‘Man, I’m Sorry’ – it’s what it sounds like when you say Mansory ten times fast… It’s also what a lot of people say when they see a Mansory-fettled car. This time the kit is fitted to a Rolls-Royce Cullinan, the last car on earth you’d think would need some Mansory work done to it.

This particular car has a full Mansory body kit (along with interior enhancements), as well as a new exhaust system designed to help the V12 engine breathe, and of course, it sits on 24-inch alloy wheels and is lowered.

It uses a 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V12 petrol engine that produces 420kW of power and 850Nm of torque. It has eight on the tree – an eight-speed automatic transmission with column shifter – and has an official 0-100km/h time of 5.2 seconds.

One of the rarest SUVs on the market is the green missile we have here. It’s the Lamborghini Urus Performante Essenza SCV12 – only available to purchase if you’ve already purchased 1 of 40 $3.5 million Essenza SCV12 race cars.

It uses a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that produces 490kW of power and 850Nm of torque. It’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and has a claimed 0-100km/h time of 3.3 seconds.

But, given this car is brand new, the launch control function doesn’t work just yet, which should even up the playing field.

The SUV with three exhaust pipes on each side, that’s the Mercedes-AMG G 63. It’s priced at $363,561 before on-road costs, but it’s not quite stock – this one has a carbon Brabus body kit and a Stage 1 engine tune.

It uses a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine and sounds absolutely incredible. It’s also mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

In stock form it cranks out 430kW of power and 850Nm of torque, its Stage 1 tune adds an exhaust system (explains the extra exhaust pipe on each side…) as well as bumps to power and torque.

The attainable challenger

Priced from $111,000 before on-road costs, the fully electric Hyundai Ioniq 5 N uses a dual-motor all-wheel drive electric powertrain producing 448kW of power and 740Nm of torque.

Those outputs increase to 478kW and 770Nm with the N Grin Boost function – which can be mated to the launch control function as well. It has a claimed 0-100km/h time of 3.4 seconds with the N Grin Boost function active.

It also has a bunch of other functions like the ability to destroy tyres, make engine sounds, and even pulse fictional gear shifts to make it feel like an internal-combustion car with a DCT.

The results

We were expecting the G 63 to walk both the Lamborghini and Rolls-Royce, but it didn’t quite end up that way.

Even with the launch control function not working in the Lamborghini, it was incredibly fast across the quarter mile.

But, none were quite fast enough to beat the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N!
